How to use this Manual

HelpThis manual can help you enter information into the windows of your laboratory information management system. This document contains general information that is applicable to many systems. You may not see every window in your particular system. However, you can use the information in this guide to learn to update information in the windows that are available.

The procedures in this manual typically apply to using most features in a STARLIMS laboratory information management system. This manual can be followed most effectively with the LIMS open and the relevant application window(s) open.

Typically:

Paths are always provided so you can navigate to and open the application(s) to which a procedure refers.
Procedures follow a logical order in which you are likely to perform your tasks.
User interface elements in the applicable window are defined unless intuitive, such as a phone number data entry box.
You are directed as to where supporting lists and tables of information are configured.

We suggest that as you review the procedures to handle a task, you open the LIMS console and navigate to the relevant application windows so that you can perform the procedures and enter information, such as results, into the system. At the same time, you can open other applications and display and/or update the information that populates selection lists. Typically the sources of selection lists are referred to in the procedures.
