Workflow Tasks in Microsoft Outlook

Top  Previous  Next

The Microsoft Outlook SDMS add-in can be used, instead of the My Tasks STARLIMS application, to perform workflow operations, such as Approve, Reject, Fail, Check Out, and so on.

Workflow operations can be managed through the Microsoft Outlook add-in feature without the need to open the SDMS applications. Based on user permissions assigned in the workflow template level you can use Microsoft Outlook to view and execute workflow actions, such as reviewing and approving documents, editing and creating new versions of documents, rejecting documents, and so on.

To log onto SDMS from Microsoft Outlook, click on the Login SDMS button (icon Outlook_Login_Icon  in Office 2003 and 2007) to open the login window. Enter user name, password and site. You can mark the check box Save Credentials to save the values that you entered to be used for future logins. Click OK to login or Close to cancel.

After you log on successfully, all workflow actions pending your response will be available in the Mail Folder directory: STARLIMS SDMS > Workflows. For example, in the following image the user of Office 2007 has two pending actions, the first using an approver role and the second using a reviewer role.

In Office 2010, the SDMS buttons are displayed in a dedicated SDMS Add-Ins tab, as seen in the following image.
