There is an electronic notebook (ELN) feature in STARLIMS. Typically ELNs (electronic notebooks) are completed according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), called ELN documents in these windows. Strictly speaking, the documents do not have to be SOPs, which can be very long. They can be procedural or otherwise related to conducting tests, and can include specific equipment, materials, and quality controls. These documents can be attached to the ELN in the Method Manager application (in the LIMS) or from the SDMS Admin application. ELN patterns can be used to link sections of the document to the sheets in an ELN.
TIP Documents such as SOPs that require a level of expertise in order for the analyst to process them can trigger an alert when they are updated. This alert is for analyst re-certification in the method to which the revised SOP is attached. For more information about how to configure and use these analyst re-certification alerts and the re-certification process, see the section about analyst re-certification in the Configuration and Concepts - Manufacturing manual on the installation CD.
