In this example, the document is created in SDMS, reviewed by two users, approved, and eventually the file content is exported to STARLIMS. The following diagram illustrates a release process of a document:

The workflow includes the following stages:
1. | The workflow can be triggered in one of two ways: |
• | A new document is uploaded to SDMS, recognized, parsed, and associated with a workflow either manually or automatically (by recognition). |
• | A version of the document exists in the system. The document is edited and a new version is created and triggers the workflow. |
2. | Because of the SPLIT operator, the document is sent to two reviewers according to the configuration in the Users section. For example, the first reviewer could be any user that belongs to the Chromatography lab, while the second reviewer could be the Team1 group leader. The reviewers can either edit and then approve the document, or approve it directly. Because of the AND logic operator, the document will proceed to the next stage only after approval from both reviewers. |
3. | After the document is reviewed and approved by the reviewers, it passes to the next approval stage. This is the final approval before exporting the document to STARLIMS. The approver can perform one of two actions: |
• | Approve - Approving the document moves the document to the next stage, which is Export. |
• | Fail - Failing the document ends the workflow without exporting the document data to STARLIMS. |
4. If the document is approved, the document moves to the Export stage. This is important because the system exports files in the Export stage only. Export can be triggered manually or automatically depending on the configuration. For information about exporting files to STARLIMS, refer to the Exporting Data from SDMS section. The following export actions are executed automatically by the system after the export is triggered:
• | Success - The file was successfully exported to STARLIMS. |
• | Fail - The file failed to be exported to STARLIMS. |
