The Grabber Service installed on your computer communicates with SDMS which is installed on a server side using a dedicated SDMS port (80 is the default). This is determined while installing SDMS (for more information, see SDMS Installation and Configuration Guide). The Grabber uploads documents and instrument messages to the system using this port, and also asks for upgrades and new settings from the system.
The Grabber service, in turn, has a communication port through which the system can call the Grabber in order to push notifications; in other words, a listening port (8970 is the default). If you need to change the default port, you will first have to make the port valid by opening it in your Firewall protection system. After you have done so, change the listening port in Grabber following the instructions in the next procedure.
NOTE There is also a possibility to cancel the listening port in the Grabber Service, using the service configuration file, if you are having troubles with your network security. For more information, contact your company's IT personnel or STARLIMS personnel for support.
