The document management system has a data capture feature, which is essential to the system, along with data processing, storing, and so on. After files are in the system, they are configured to be recognized, parsed, and, if configured that way, are processed using workflows where they are exported to other applications, such as a LIMS.
Documents can be added to the SDMS database either automatically or manually using:
• | Attachment through STARLIMS - Many applications in STARLIMS allow you to attach documents. These documents can be added into SDMS automatically. For more information, see section Uploading a File from STARLIMS Applications. |
• | Using SDMS Grabber - This tool allows SDMS to poll defined locations on a computer, load the documents, and then clean the folders. For more information, see section SDMS Grabber. |
• | Direct upload through an SDMS link - To browse and upload documents directly into the SDMS database use the Upload file button or Upload link from the Documents or Incoming Queue applications, respectively. For more information, see section Uploading Files using Incoming Queue. |
• | Microsoft Office - SDMS has Add-Ins that integrate with Microsoft Office applications such as Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel (versions 2003 or later) on your client computer. Install an Add-In to save documents to SDMS using the associated application. You can also upload composite reports created using those applications. For more information, see section Using Microsoft Office Add-Ins. |
After files are uploaded, they can be managed in the Incoming Queue or Documents applications.
